Fibrillation in the glossary for Waldenström's macroglobulinemia

The most common type of heart arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) that can interrupt normal blood flow.

Fibrillation describes a muscular twitching involving individual muscle fibers acting without coordination. In the context of the heart, it is an abnormal and erratic twitching of the heart muscle. The very rapid irregular contractions of the muscle fibers of the heart resulting in a lack of synchronism between heartbeat and pulse is known as atrial fibrillation.
